Alphaedge 4D Design Objects
Designers and developers often spend a great deal of time and energy thinking/developing products that are incredibly layered and filled with details and complexities. Sometimes it’s a particular aesthetic design feature, innovative material or a complex construction technique. Executing the product to a high level, especially one that’s perhaps a little more progressive in nature than most, is a tall order. However, often the tricky part that’s over looked, once you’ve managed to perfect that intricate balance of parts and finally create the product you been envisioning, is how to tell that complex story in a palatable way to the general consumer.
A great example of that would be Adidas’ “4D” midsole. Freelance Art Director and Designer, Marcus Brown shared how he and adidas cleverly described the Alphaedge 4D shoe sole design process in just 3 simple steps.
The first model illustrates three dimensionally the data that adidas captures from foot pressure, each ball representing one general pressure point. Using a simple string design, the second model illustrates how different densities of lattice are placed within the midsole. The last case in the series presents the final Alphaedge 4D midsole created by adidas.
