The Father of Air: Marion “Frank” Rudy
Many of you will know that Tinker Hatfield was the design genius behind making the Nike air bubble visible to the world, but what most won’t know is who the man responsible for the actual invention of the air bubble itself was.
Former NASA aeronautical engineer (and all around G), Marion “Frank” Rudy was the man who patented the cushioning system based on an inert gas encapsulated in polyurethane plastic, which was then later trademarked by Nike as the “Air” sole.
